I have not tried this for cold food yet but it is perfect for hot food. I ordered two for use on the rv and two for use at home. I filled one with hot water at 165 degrees and the temperature of the water had only dropped 25 degrees 4 hours later. I am sure the temp will drop faster as the lid is removed often during a meal but these will definitely keep your food warm for the two hours advertised. On the RV it is a pain to run electric cords or to keep candles lit under other food warmers and the last little bit of food seems to dry out. These will make out outdoor meals so much easier and they're unbreakable!
