Food Chopper As Seen On TV (Anonymous)
I've owned both the Alligator brand and the Vidalia Chop Wizard and was much happier with the Vidalia Chop Wizard. I found that I rarely used the second (large opening) blade, but I used the other blade almost daily. The plastic container was great and I liked the measuring markings on the side. I liked having uniform sized pieces of onion and I didn't think they were too small. For me, it was a great time saver. I have to say, though, that after frequent use, the blades do eventually dull and then it becomes more and more difficult to chop. From the very start, I used it only for onions because it just smashed anything else I tried to use it on (like tomatoes and bell peppers). And I ALWAYS cut the onion in half and chopped each half separately. After about a year of use, I ended up having to slice an onion into thirds or quarters and then chop each slice. That worked for awhile, but eventually the blades got so dull that I broke the plastic hinge from the amount of pressure I had to exert. I broke it about two weeks ago and I've really missed it. I'm ordering another one today. So why 4 stars? I think it should have held up a little longer than it did. But honestly I used the poor thing to death and I can afford to get one a year and save myself lots of time and eye-tearing.

This is a great product if you cut lot of vegetables, especially onions. You can cut them with a snap of a motion. It is a snap if you know the technique. Use your palms to press this down with one palm on the top of each other.

However, you need to cut the vegetables into small pieces to cover approximately half the surface of the blade. If you try to cut a bigger piece, the product will break at the hinge. I bought three in the past and all of them broke and I this is the 4th one that I am buying. Why I am still buying if they break? It makes my job of cutting onions and vegetables easy and they all are the same size. If you are making salsa, or salad where you care how the pieces look, this product is great. I tried slap chop and other products but don't like any of them. I wish they make this product with something other than plastic that wouldn't break or they can sell just the bottom container.

tHE ONLY REASON I GAVE IT A 4 RATING IS THAT THE PLASTIC HINGE BREAKS TOO EASILY. WE HAVE PURCHASED 2 UNITS SO FAR AND THEY HAVE BOTH BROKE AT THE HINGES. I WENT ONLINE TODAY TO PUCHASE ANOTHER ONE BECASUE WE ARE LOST WITHOUT OUR CHOPPER. MY HUSBAND WENT TO SEVERAL STORES YESTERDAY LOOKING FOR ANOTHER ONE AND COULDNT FIND ONE. WE HAVE ACTUALLY PLANNED OUR DINNER MENU AROUND NOT HAVING ONE AND MAKE MEALS THAT DONT REQUIRE MUCH CHOPPING. I NEVER DO THESE CUSTOMER COMMENTS BUT I USE THEM A LOT AND THINK ITS A GREAT WAY TO HELP OTHERS BUY PRODUCTS. SO I WOULD ENCOURGE YOU TO BUY ONE BUT I ALSO ENCOURAGE THE MANUFACTURE TO LISTEN TO ITS CUSTOMERS AND REMAKE THE BASE A LITTE STURDIER.

I'm a firm believer in this product . I purchase this product not thinking it would be that good but it is better than good.I am a manager of a high school and i took my chopper to school and we chopped most everything,. that is a lot of chopping but not for this bad baby. The only thing that you really can't chop is meat but of course we are talking about a school making a lot of chef salads. That is why i'm going to buy several,it will make very good Christmas gifts for people who has gardens and needs to chop their vegetables. I really can't say enough about this product except don't quit making it because it is a very good product. Thank you Pat Foster

I have bought 2 of these in the past year & others are right the plastic breaks quite easily, however, I use this product more than any other kitchen appliance I have & I do have just about everything that has come out. Both of mine have broken at the hinges BUT I fully intend to purchase another. This is one appliance I will not be without. I do alot of cooking & canning. Would love to have one in stainless steel with alittle heavier blade that would last.
I JUST CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THIS MACHINE......My mom lives with me & is 87yrs young so I dice alot of her food as you could for a young child. That way it is easy to chew but you still get the full flavor of the food. Just needs to be made a little more durable & I think anyone would be nuts not to want one.

you can get replacement parts! (Anonymous)
I did some checking and found that you can buy just the base for this. You can contact customer service and request one.

I use this mostly for soups when I have to cut a bunch of celery, carrots, onions and potatoes into small, uniform pieces. I also use it to chop onion for topping hamburgers and hot dogs when I have company. It's so FAST!!!! 1-2-3 and you're done!

One of the two negatives is that the top part of the appliance has to be cleaned after use, and the best thing I have found so far is a toothpick. The problem with toothpicks is that they keep breaking. I wish the manufacturer would enclose a metal toothpick to use for cleaning!

The other negative is that they break too easily. I was making soup this morning and my chopper broke. I'm lost without it. The construction is just hard plastic, so when one of the little side knobs breaks off, you no longer have any "traction" and the appliance is useless.

I love this thing! I have had one for a year, and am now giving it as gifts to many people. I chop onions, carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, celery, peppers, etc. I use the smaller blade for hard boiled eggs, strawberries to go over our oatmeal, olives, mushrooms, anything you would take the time to dice this thing does in seconds. You do have to push with 2 hands when doing something hard like carrots or potatoes. (one hand in the middle and one on the end) I will buy this again in an instant if mine breaks!

I've bought and used 2 of these. They are as handy as advertised. However, on both sets, the hinges on the catch container have broken off. As far I can tell, there's no replacement parts available, one must buy the complete set.

I'm typically skeptical of all the cool gadgets I see on TV. I'm always afraid I won't use it more than once. This chopper is fantastic! I actually look for reasons to use it, and it has encouraged me to eat fresh food more often! It's perfect for dicing veggies to roast in olive oil, or for speeding up holiday cooking without using up extra counter space for cutting boards. Clean up is a BREEZE with the handy tool, and it almost never gets put away because I use it all the time. LOVE LOVE LOVE this product.

Every time I have company and I get it out to cook, my guests are amazed at how well it works. My hundred dollar food processor has been collecting dust since I bought this kitchen gadget. I buy the Chop Wizard as gifts for my family and friends.

We got the Vidalia Chop Wizard as a Christmas gift. As it's a "TV gadget" we were suspect. But, it's really great. We've chopped onions, peppers, potatoes and more and everything comes out very well. The measuring storage bin is also very helpful for recipes. The vidalia chop wizard is easy to clean and the little "finger" gadget gets in all the grooves. This as seen on screen gadget is well worth the price.
