Apples To Apples (Anonymous)
When the entire family gets together this is the game we all look for. We end up with three tables pushed together. It includes people from 11 to 85 and we all end up laughing and enjoying ourselves. Sometimes we have to explain the words to the younger kids but they just laugh and we are all back to the game.No one is afraid to ask and everyone is willing to help. I am ordering my own for the next family gathering so we have one here. Love the fact that it can bring all ages to the table at once laughing and having fun together. I highly recommend.

We've had a blast with this game. It's so easy to learn. You have seven word cards in your hand from the first deck, and you have to pick one that is best described by the card that is turned over from the second deck. First, we played with my seven year old son and the neighborhood kids, and even though they didn't understand some of the words, they'd crack up when they'd see the other boys' choices. We mixed the cards being played, then handed them to my husband, the judge, so he wouldn't know who's card was whose. Next, we played it when we had some friends over for drinks. This time, instead of the judge not knowing who the cards belonged to, we actually tried to talk our choice up so he would choose our card. This quickly turned into a lot of silliness as we made our cases, and I think we ended up playing for over an hour before the kids came out and took over again.

This game is unusual since there are no WRONG answers! There are better and worse answers, but it is all a matter of opinion. If you have shy persons who hesitate to play a game because they are afraid they can't remember the right answer (like Trivial Pursuit), this is a game they will enjoy.

This is a great game, easily learned and played by younger players. Since it's hard to know what a game is like without knowing how to play it, im going to try to explain it too you.
Its simple: each player has seven RED cards with names of people, places or things on them. A GREEN card is randomly picked from a pile and set on the table: each GREEN CARD has a characteristic of an object or person, such as "Graceful" "Wild" "Neat" "Ancient", to name a few. Each person has to pick the RED card (out of their seven cards) that best matches with the GREEN card on the table, like the "pushups" red card would fit well with the "exhausting" green card, etc. Once everyone has placed one red card in the middle with the green card, a judge (assigned at the beginning of each round, so you take turns) picks the card that they think matches best, and the person that had that card gets a point. What makes this game fun is, like a previous reviewer said, is that there are no wrong answers, you can pick whatever you want. There also 5 or six variations to the game which can be VERY fun. May I warn you though, this game cannot be played with less than three players, and isn't really fun unless you have 5 or more, so bring friends over to try it out. I hope my review and explanation helped anyone considering buying it.. |

I decided to purchase this game based on the recommendation of a friend. I played it for the first time on Thanksgiving with a group of friends that my husband and I had over for dinner. What a great game! We had a fairly diverse group and were cracking each other up with our offered answers the whole way through. I think we also learned a little bit more about each other through playing Apples to Apples. Since you are trying to "woo" the judget to pick your card, you start to figure out how each person thinks, what their sense of humor is like, etc. We chose to play some of the game variations suggested by the maker and enjoyed it even more than the standard game rules. I prefer this game to Cranium and other similar games. I am already planning to give this game as a gift to a couple of people this year.

This is a well-thought-out version of the old parlor game. I've played it with index cards with words written by hand, but this version is better just because of the enormous variety of cards provided. You can always add your own cards too to make the game more topical. It's a lot of fun for 4 players or more, but with fewer players it gets slow. It's enjoyable for groups of all ages, even mixed ages, as everybody gets to participate at his/her level. Before you play, though, decide if you're going to allow "lobbying" where players get to argue for the correctness of the cards they play. Depending on personalities, it can get contentious and less fun.
