Upside-down growing lets you tend and harvest without bending. Watering and fertilizing is easy too. After planting, just mix a water soluble fertilizer with water and pour it in the planter's special top funnel. Vegetables growing upside down will "curl up" toward the sun. This creates fun, unusual looking plants. Flowers grown in the Topsy Turvy will "curl upward" too, taking on different appearances and looking almost like new varieties. We hope you have a lot of fun and success with the Topsy Turvy Tomato Planter

The Topsy Turvy Tomato Planter works in a simple yet ingenious way. As the sun warms the plant like a greenhouse, the root system explodes and thrives inside the planter. Because the Topsy Turvy is upside down, water and nutrients pour directly from the root to the fruit, giving you up to 30 pounds of deliciously ripe tomatoes per plant!

You don't have to worry about tomato cages or stakes because the plants grow upside down with gravity. Plants grown upside down will curl upward, looking for the sun. It creates a very interesting and unusual plant with no ugly sprawling. Flowers look particularly interesting grown upside down. All you need to start growing is to provide your own topsoil and a small starter plant to transplant into the Topsy Turvy. The planter is designed to hold the plant and the soil perfectly in place so there are no spills.

Feeding and watering is easy. You just pour water into the top funnel while standing up. You can use several different Topsy Turvy tomato planters at the same time. Grow tomatoes in one, green peppers in another, and flowers in a third one. The possibilities are unlimited. The Topsy Turvy planter is a durable garden container that you can use again and again to grow plants for many years to come. If you grow annual flowers, tomatoes, annual herbs, etc. you simply fill it with fresh soil and plant a new batch of starter plants in the spring.

Since the container is mostly covered, it doesn't need to be watered as much as an open container. You can grow two tomato plants at once from a Topsy Turvy, which will bring a lot of tomatoes from a small space. Depending on the variety of tomato vine you use, you can get up to 30 lbs of tomatoes at once.

Each order includes 1 Unit of Topsy Turvy Tomato Planter.

Planted one in the ground, one upside down
Anonymous (Unknown) 5/18/2009 9:21 PM
As an experiment, I took two beefstake tomato plants, same size, etc. I planted one in the ground and the other in the topsy turvy. within 10 days I had a tomato and now after 3 weeks, I have 5 tomatoes - one is as big as a tennis ball. The one I planted in the ground has blossoms, but is nothing like the upside down one - the stem is THICK-that became apparent within the first week I planted it. It works! I went and got the chili pepper planter and planted 7 in it. I have no doubts I'll get a good yield!

Topsy Turvy Upside-Down Tomato Planter

I live in a townhouse with a small backyard in Northern Virginia. With two dogs who use the yard it would have been almost impossible to grow a veggie garden. So, I decided to try the topsy turvy and I hung two from my north-facing deck which got direct sun for half of the day. The tomatoes grew like wild fire - they grew straight down and then curved up. It grew about a dozen large tomatoes - not a lot but good enough. The tomatoes needed to be watered very often, almost every day, in the very hot months of the summer. However, the green peppers in the other one didn't need as much water. That plant grew down just a bit and then darted up and grew many mid-sized green peppers all summer. I don't think I will try tomatoes again due to the lack of fruit and the amount of water it needed. I will definitely do peppers again. The bags are definitely heavy when filled with dirt and even heavier after watered. Squirrels got into one of them and chewed around the cover but I never noticed any bugs or insects on the plants. For me, these worked so well for me and I can't wait to use them again next year.

"My wife and I purchased two of these planters a few months ago and our tomato plants are now jam packed with fruit ready to pick. I recently purchased two more online as our local stores were sold out. I transplanted our bell pepper plants and within a day, the leaves had perked up and within a few days the peppers are noticeably bigger. As others have stated, the planters get heavy and a little awkward to work with when placing the plant and filling with dirt. In most situations, you'll need two people to get it set up. But once it is up and hanging, nothing could be easier. We are already looking forward to getting our plants in early next spring."

I have better boy tomatoes in my topsy turvy. I so far have 13 tomatoes (they aren't ready yet so i don't know how well they taste). My father grew up on a farm and took one look at my tomato plant and said it is the biggest he's ever seen. The only issue is that I keep having to raise it. It is touching the ground again and My arms wont be able to reach to raise it again. I am 5'2 and it is taller than me. My 3 tomatoes that are almost ripe are HUGE. There is a trick to the potting soil. Go get some cow manure and lay it in the bottom about an inch or so. And then put the potting soil over that. It helped alot. I am really tempted to go buy another because my red pepper plant that is on the ground is not doing so well

I purchased 3 of these for growing Tomato's, Green Peppers and Cucumbers and they all worked like a dream. Plants were healthy, full and produced alot of edible vegetables. I had assumed at the time i was researching this item that they dry out fast in the summer sun and that i would have to water constantly but that was not the case. I only watered once every other day. The chamber holds alot of moisture and because its plastic prevents alot of the evaporation. Only recommendation is find a sturdy spot for the hanger then leave it there until the season is over. My neighbor also bought a couple and moved them once they got to big breaking the stem of one tomato plant with was laddened with fruits. So allow at least 3-4ft of clearance under the planter for extensive growth then enjoy the resulting harvest!
